Ken was born in Cold Lake, Alberta in 1960. He attended one year at Red Deer College’s fine art program then moved to Calgary to attend the Alberta College of Art and Design where he graduated from the Visual Communications program in 1984. He then commenced a freelance illustration career in Calgary. In 1988, he started a studio and illustration rep house with other artists and designers called Gherkin Studios which won numerous clients and awards over the next ten years. Ken has won many awards for illustrations in the design and print categories, including best poster in North America for an Illustration for the Calgary international car and truck show. In 1998, he joined Three in a Box and has worked both nationally and internationally ever since. Ken also teaches at the Alberta College of Art and exhibits his work in galleries and on limited edition prints. Ken is also developing his own children’s book series, and art book featuring his life’s work revolving around a Victorian fantasy world.
