Steininger in The New Yorker’s Sci-fi Issue
Otto Steininger was by the New Yorker, to illustrate a detective story for their first ever Science Fiction issue. He dubbed his story “Sci-Fi murder mystery”. It tells the sordid story of a household robot, a murderer and a homicide.
To compliment the Sci-fi style, Steininger uses his favorite retro-futuristic cars including the legendary Citroën DS, the Stout Scarab and Buckminster Fuller’s Dymaxion car, here deployed as a police helicopter.
Otto Steininger’s illustrations were placed strategically throughout the text of the magazine and the reader is meant to hunt within the magazine to follow the story. Fortunately for use, Otto has supplied us with an animated GIF that plays the images in sequence. Thank you, Otto!
