Bellebrute was born in a flash of creative joy between Marianne Chevalier and Vincent Gagnon, coming back from a short New York trip in 2010. Having worked in the Quebec illustration field since many years, Marianne and Vincent join forces to create friendly creatures, embellished with textures and pattern papers. She sketches, he paints, then she carries on with collage while he writes a few lines. It’s that simple!

Marianne studied graphic design and completed a master’s degree in visual arts. As a child, she thought she was a forest fairy. She always laughed a lot.  Today she still makes magic for our eyes and her laugh is quite contagious.

Vincent studied political sciences, literature and anthropology. As a boy he wanted to be just like Zorro. He was a dreamer yet quite a joker. Today he’s just bigger. When he is not working with Bellebrute, he illustrates articles in American and Canadian magazines and newspapers under the name Vigg.

We also have, as a separate gallery, Bellebrute’s picture books. It’s a lot of fun and well worth a visit.
